“And tongues, like flames of fire that were divided, appeared to them and rested on each one of them.” Acts 2:3 (HCSB)
Acts 2 is quite descriptive… sound of a mighty violent wind from heaven (v2), flames of fire dividing and landing on everyone (v3), all were filled with the Holy Spirit and 120 people spoke in a heavenly language (v4) that was understand by others who came to see what all the commotion was about (5-12)! A heavenly portal, angels of fire, the Holy Spirit and a new tongue, wow, that sounds incredible!
Then Peter got up and spoke, trying to explain what was going on. He told them that this was spoken about by the prophet Joel
“And it will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity; then your sons and your daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.” (Acts 2:17, Joel 2:28)
Yes, this was the beginning of the fulfillment of this prophecy by Joel, but not the completion. Joel had said that God would pour out His Spirit on all of humanity (HCSB). At that first outpouring, it was only upon those who were there in the room and subsequently, other followers of Christ. But Joel’s word referred to all people (NIV, NLT), all mankind (NASB), all flesh (ESV, KJV), everybody (Aramaic Bible), every person (International Standard version), all kinds of people (NET) and everyone (Contemporary English Version). That is quite larger than just those who believe! This has to do with the great harvest. The Holy Spirit and the angels of fire are about to fall upon our world and millions will see Jesus. After all, one of the primary roles of the Holy Spirit is to point people to and reveal Jesus! Get ready for revelation to increase, to receive dreams and visions like never before, and for a flood of humanity to come to faith in Jesus! The veil will be torn and people will see who Jesus really is!!!
Today as we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, join me in praying for the Holy Spirit and the heavenly angels of fire to fall upon humanity (oh we desperately need it). Invite Him to fall upon you, your family, your pastor, your church, your neighborhood, our nation and across the world. Yes, cry out for God to release the Holy Spirit and His heavenly army upon those who do not know or are not walking with Jesus right now! Thank the Lord that you are alive and have apart to play in such a time as this!!!
