Anoint the pulpits!

“The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.” Psalm 19:9 (NIV)

The pulpit is a powerful place! And sadly, many have been defiled with man’s clever self-help and “make me feel good” messages. Not that the Word shouldn’t help us, or ultimately make us feel better about ourselves, but the purpose of the Word of God is to help us know Christ, make us more like Him and bring us freedom with such knowledge. Truth that set us free (and ultimately makes us feel good about ourselves) usually hurts at first. Truth must address the lies, the sins and the strongholds that have entangled us. Dealing with them is usually painful, but brings freedom. The Word of God is pure, it stirs the fear of the Lord, it draws us into holiness, and it endures forever!

Please cry out for God to speak powerfully through the pulpits in our city. Ask Him to purify these powerful places in the church. Pray that where there has been defilement and “self-help” make me feel happy messages preached, that God would cleanse and re-establish the power of the Word of God in these congregations. Ask God to burn a deeper, passionate, even desperate hunger for the Word in all those who stand in the pulpits in our city. Ask God to release a fear of the Lord and a reverence of the Word of God in the churches across Athens. Ask God to make His house a place of holiness and prayer. Ask God to start in you!
