“Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.” Song of Solomon 2:15 (NIV)
A little sin here and a little sin there literally pushes God away. It’s time to say no to compromise and yes to absolute surrender to God’s holiness! God desires lovers who wholeheartedly seek Him! Solomon tells us to make sure we deal with “those little foxes!” Actually, little foxes are more of a threat to the vineyard than big foxes because the nibble away at the roots. The vine looks fine, but just starts dying because it has been damaged at the base.
We once had a black sheep dog in Australia named Makona. It was one high energy pooch! After all, it was bred to herd sheep. Well, Makona was also a bit mischievous. One time we noticed that several of our newly planted trees were dying. When we took a closer look, these trees were still standing upright because of their stakes, but they were literally no longer attached to the base! Makona had shredded them! And by the way, trees don’t live very long when they have been severed at the base! Well, little foxes do the same thing. And so do little sins, you know those things you (maybe others) don’t even feel are wrong or evil. But we are not the standard of what is acceptable to God. And spoiler alert, God warns us of these little things, not because He is a killjoy, but because He knows what robs real joy!
Ask God to show you any place where you have allowed little foxes into your walk with Him. Ask Him to show you the places you have allowed compromise and “little sins” to hide in your heart. As you see them, repent quickly and ask Him to close every door that has allowed them in. Pray for your pastor and church the same way, that every place of compromise to God’s perfect will and ways, would be exposed and quickly dealt with. Cry out to God to show the churches across our city every place where we have allowed these little foxes, compromises and tiny sins to destroy the vineyards! Ask God to release the true wine from His heavenly vineyard over our city!!!
