Then Joshua said to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.’” Joshua 3:6 (ESV)

There are many, and I am talking many, who are sensing God say to them and their congregation, “Consecrate yourselves!” The Holy Spirit has been saying this for months, but now there is an intensity, even an urgency! The “tomorrow” bit is standing out. We are coming to a point, where we could miss the moment. But the crazy thing about consecration is, we can only go so far without God’s help.

To consecrate means to make or declare something sacred, holy. To consecrate is to be set apart from others and other things unto God. It means to purify oneself. To dedicate for God’s purposes. As we set ourselves apart unto God, He makes us holy. There are things in our lives that are unholy, but unseen by us! God takes what is broken and makes it new, even better than before. But we have to give it to Him! He takes what is unholy, but set apart unto Him and makes it holy. We may enter His gates with thanksgiving, and pass through His courts with praise (Psalm 100:4), but we can only enter the Holy of Holies by Jesus’ blood.

The Lord told Moses to tell the people: “Consecrate yourselves, therefore and be holy, for I am the LORD God” (Leviticus 20:7). Peter reminded us similar words from God, “Be holy as I am holy” (1 Peter 1:12). We are called to be a holy people, set apart unto God. Though we are in the world we are not to be of it. In light of that, Jesus asked the Father to sanctify us (John 17:16-19). As we yield, surrender and set ourselves apart unto God, He does what only He can do, truly makes us holy.

What if the Israelites refused or only did a half-hearted job to consecrate themselves before crossing over the Jordan? God was calling them to walk in a new anointing. They were moving from being wanderers to being warriors. They were leaving daily manna behind to eat of the produce of the Promised Land! They were shifting from complainers to conquerors. In fact, they were being commissioned to take down giants and wipe out whole cities that were defiled by Satan’s seed! Had they not consecrated themselves, undoubtedly, they would have been utterly crushed!

Are you willing to set yourself completely apart, as holy unto the Lord? Are you willing to give up lessor things, certain foods, drinks, media, sports, time, treasures … for the King of kings? Are you willing to consecrate yourself to be ready for what God is about to do? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to be in position before (and behind) Him as He rides His white horse into our city and nation? Are you willing to see and take down giants, then occupy the land for our King? An unconsecrated people will be crushed by what is about to be revealed, by the battles that we are being called into. There is no room for part-time warriors, half-hearted Christians, or lukewarm soldiers in what God is about to do. Get ready, we have never been this way before (Joshua 3:4). What seemed to work in the last season is no longer going to work, at all, in this new season!

Right now, consecrate yourself unto the Lord. Yield to Him, to His ways and His will for you and your life. Declare He is your Lord, your Master, your King! Ask Him to do whatever is necessary for you to be ready to cross over to the other side, to take down giants and conqueror cities for Him! Ask Him to release a grace in your church, for your pastor and people to be willing to consecrate themselves, completely unto the Lord. Pray that churches, leaders and lovers of Jesus would now set themselves apart for Jesus. It is time to come out of Babylon and stand directly behind King Jesus!
