“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 (ESV)
The very first thing we learn about God in the Bible is that He is creative! The law of first mention means it is important! In the beginning God created! Creativity is releasing His thoughts, ideas and desires on earth as it is in heaven. We, as His children, are to reflect His creative nature. It is in us! We should endeavor to create an atmosphere around our lives that is creative. Sadly, many lose their creativity at some point during their childhood years! We start to think inside the box, to not make a mess, to operate in what already is, to fit in! But God wants His kids to play with Him outside the box. He desires our lives, our words, even the songs we sing to be reflections of His creativity. But creativity requires risk, meaning we might “fail” or it might not look good or sound nice, or no one may like it, or it might simply be messy! Please remember that creativity is expressing heaven on earth. Creativity is the expression of our being created in the image of our Creator! Even our intercession is a partnership with God creating heavenly realities on earth! Remember, Jesus taught us to pray, “As it is in heaven let it be here on earth!”
Ask God to release a new grace for creativity over your life. Ask Him to release you from the bondage of staying within the box. Ask Him to release you from the fear of being concerned about what others think. Ask Him to release you from the shackles of the fear of failure. Pray for your pastor to be set free as well, and that your church could become an oasis of creativity. Ask God to release every church and ministry in our city into a fresh wind of creative culture, making Athens a city that reflects heaven! May Athens be a place where people come because God’s presence and creativity is expressed here!
