“Only I, Daniel, saw the vision. The men who were with me did not see it, but a great terror fell on them, and they ran and hid.” Daniel 10:7 (HCSB)

We are told a simple truth, that when we choose to trust God with all our heart, and not lean on our own understanding, or our own interpretation or perception, He will give us clarity with our way forward (Proverbs 3:5-6). We need spiritual discernment in this hour! What our ears are hearing from the news around the world, or what our eyes are seeing, or mind conceiving from the narrative we are being fed, has led to much confusion and misunderstanding of what is actually happening. When Elisha’s servant become overwhelmed with the presence of enemy soldiers who had surrounded their city, Elisha said “Don’t be afraid, those who are with us are more than those who are against us” (2 Kings 6:16). Then he prayed that his eyes would be opened and suddenly they were, with fiery chariots and heavenly warriors filling the hills! We need our eyes opened to such spiritual battles today!

You see there are three realms that we are to operate in. We live and breathe in the physical realm. Materialists tell us that all there is! They would have us believe that reality is only what we can experience through our senses. Yet there is also a spiritual realm around us, where angels and demons dwell, and fight. It is right here and right now happening near you. Our choices, words and actions impact what goes on in this spiritual realm. Actually, in this season there is an increased level of spiritual activity going on locally, nationally and globally. Lastly, there is the heavenly realm, the place where God dwells, the place we enter into when we press into Him in worship, where we fix our gaze when we meditate upon God and His glory.

Ask God for divine wisdom and understanding for the earthly realm. Tell Him you trust Him even when you don’t understand what is really happening in our nation, or with Russia and Ukraine. There is much more going on than we can see or know at this point. Ask God to increase your discernment and ability to distinguish spirits operating in the spiritual realm. Ask God for an increased grace to gaze, reflect and meditate upon, and marinate in, the heavenly realm. Ask Him to open your eyes to see Him high and lifted up, seated upon His throne, even with just a dim reflection (1 Corinthians 13:12). Pray this for your pastor as well!
