“…Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.” Matthew 3:3b (NIV)
By definition forerunners are ones who go before others and make a way. As such they often feel misunderstood, because they are! They don’t feel they fit because they are pressing the fringe and pushing the crowd out of their comfort, or status quo zone! Forerunners are breakers, in that, they break open new ways. They often see the other side of the wall and choose to believe there is more than this current moment. They are sojourners, pilgrims and pioneers. As the writer of Hebrews says they are aliens and strangers as they push toward what could be (Hebrews 11:13). Their faith compels them to look outside the box. Forerunners prepare the way for movements, because God rarely moves from the crowd but from the outliers. Forerunners refuse to let go, even when everything else says it’s impossible! The fuel for forerunners is faith and God promises to reward those with faith, who diligently seek Him and His kingdom (Hebrews 11:6, Matthew 6:33). Forerunners forge change, and make a way for a new era!
Ask God to raise up forerunners in our city and across our nation. Ask Him to stir up those in your church, whom He desires to release a ‘breaker anointing’ and to go before others in preparing a way. If you are willing, ask Him to give you the faith and grace to step into the new level of forerunning He has for you. Tell Him you will say “Yes!” to whatever He asks you to do. Ask Him to increase vision and passion for His kingdom within you. And PLEASE, pray for those whom you know are forerunners!
