“But you are God’s chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual ‘nation’ set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience His marvelous light, and now He claims you as His very own. He did this so that you would broadcast His glorious wonders throughout the world.” 1 Peter 2:9 (TPT)
In the movie Hook, Peter Banning had forgotten who he really was… Peter Pan. He had forgotten that he could fight, fly and crow! He had become domesticated. He had become like a purring kitty cat, when in reality he was a roaring lion! He was an eagle believing he was a chicken! He was a warrior believing he was chump. Though at first, he did not remember who he was, he ultimately stepped back into his identity and faced his foe one last time!
Likewise, so many believers have forgotten, or maybe have never known who they are… kids of the Most High God. We are heirs of the King. We are not slaves, victims or prisoners. We are not oppressed, but we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37). We are not despised or rejected, but deeply loved children of God (1 John 3:1). And as His children we carry an authority that is not of this world. We have an authority to cast out demons, and more! We are called to hold ourselves as holy royalty!
Ask God to unfold a new level of what it means for you to be a child of God, a son or daughter of the King. Ask Him to show you any and every place where you have forgotten who you are, where you have put on the rags of slaves rather than the garments of royalty. Ask Him to show you how to leverage your relationship as a child of God for the benefit of those around you. Ask Him to teach you how to operate in your heavenly authority. Ask Him to restore confidence in your identity. You are here for a purpose. Ask God to grant you the grace to step into that purpose with complete assurance of who you are. Ask God to do this same thing in your pastor and throughout your church, and the churches in our city.
