“… The LORD has sought out a man after His own heart…” 1 Samuel 13:14 (ESV)

There is a huge difference from lingering in God’s presence, loving His presence, and seeking His presence than knowing His heart. There is so much talk today about seeking His presence, or creating presence centered services. But here’s the thing, you can come into His presence and miss His heart. David, who knew God’s presence, as he gave us a glimpse, that there is fullness of joy in it (Psalm 16:11), but David as not known as a man after God’s presence. David is called, by God Himself, “a man after My own heart” (Acts 13:22)! God’s heart is at the center of His presence!

Don’t stop seeking His presence, but don’t simply stay there! Allow that to be the doorway to His heart! In His presence there is grace to press into His heart. In His presence we are invited to ascend the Holy Hill (Psalm 24) which requires clean hands, a pure heart, a soul that is free of idolatry and lives by truth. We are to climb this mountain, ultimately standing naked before God, clothed only in Jesus’ righteousness.  But His mountain is only found in His presence!

Ask God to increase your desire for lingering in His presence. Cry out for Him to reveal to you His heart. Ask Him to show you what He feels, thinks and wants. Ask Him to grant you the grace to join David in seeking just one thing, God’s heart! Ask Him to make you into one who carries His presence and heart everywhere you go, that others would be draw to Him by His presence and heart in you! May your life be characterized by “fullness of joy” because you dwell in His presence!
