“For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.” Ephesians 6:12 (HCSB)
It is said, and rightly so, that our struggle is not against flesh and blood. Well, that is not entirely true! I guess it depends on one’s perspective. First, the devil and his spiritual cohorts use physical people, who are flesh and blood to do their evil bidding. It is quite evident and blatant today that demons are using people to accomplish the devil’s wicked and perverted plans on the earth.
But it is also not completely true in that, our flesh is constantly in conflict in coming under the blood of Jesus. What Jesus accomplished through the cross and His shed blood on it, is nothing less that absolutely amazing and complete. His blood covers ALL our sin. There is nothing too big or bad that His blood can’t cover. The problem is, we often don’t let it. We listen to the lies of the enemy, the whispers of the devil, and accept shame, unworthiness, condemnation, etc. The Lord desires freedom for us. When we are under the blood, there is no place for shame. There is no condemnation in Christ (Romans 8:1). Everything that stood opposed to us and was held against us was nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:13-15). So, the enemy must lie to get us to come out from the blood. These are referred to as strongholds, and we have divine power to destroy them (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). A stronghold is a lie, a pretension or an argument that sets itself up against the knowledge of God. In other words, when we believe or act upon something that is not what God’s word says about ourselves or Him, we are allowing a stronghold to be established. But the divine power of His word, and the truth in it, is what demolishes these strongholds. We are called to live under the blood of Jesus. In Jesus we are completely forgiven, healed and set free (Psalm 103:2-3). Anything less is not God’s desire.
Nevertheless, when Paul wrote that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, he was talking in the context of spiritual warfare. And though there are human agents involved, and they will be held accountable for their actions and decisions, we must keep in mind that the greater battle going on in the spiritual realm is against low-level demons as well as high-level wicked powers of darkness.
Thank Him for His perfect justice that will hold each person responsible for their sin, that is a part from those who bring it all under the cross! Thank Jesus for His blood that makes your victory a reality! Ask Him to use your testimony to bring spiritual victory! Declare every one of your sins are under Jesus’ blood, and that the debt you once carried has been nailed to the cross (Colossians 2:13-14). Declare that the devil is a lair and that you do not accept his shame and condemnation. Ask Him to expose any and every stronghold, lie and pretension that has deceptively worked its way into your mind, and then confess these lies and put on the truth regarding each one! Thank Him that you are overwhelmingly victorious in Jesus and His blood (Romans 8:37, Revelation 12:11)!!!
