“So He replied to the messengers, ‘Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of Me.’” Luke 7:22-23 (NIV)
As I began to worship the Lord, in my spirit, I heard the words, “Momentum, Momentum, Momentum.” The Holy Spirit began to speak to me about the speed in which the kingdom of God was moving. He led me to this story in Luke 7. In the verses above, Jesus was replying to a group of messengers sent by John the Baptist who was in prison. John had sent them to ask Jesus if he was the Messiah or should they be expecting someone else. (v.19) Trapped in prison, John no longer could see the kingdom of God moving in the earth. His lack of momentum caused him to doubt the very thing that he helped set into motion.
Sometimes when we find ourselves in the midst of a prison where we can’t see God, hear God or experience what He is doing, we start to doubt and ask questions like John, is God really moving, will revival really come? The enemy uses these moments to make us believe that there is no momentum in our life. Promises and prophecies seem stalled or stuck within our own personal prison. This is where Jesus comes in. Jesus responds by saying, look at the momentum of the Kingdom, it is gaining speed at this very moment! (v.21) The blind see, the lame walk, the dead are raised and the gospel is being preached! Just because John couldn’t see beyond his prison walls did not mean that heaven wasn’t invading earth. Even though we can’t see everything God is doing right now on the earth doesn’t mean that our cause is without momentum. If you feel like John and feel stuck, take heart because the kingdom of God is increasing this very hour!
Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to the way God is moving in your life, in the lives around you and in the city. Pray that our commission to heal the sick, cast out demons and raise the dead would be activated inside of us and through us. Declare the momentum of the kingdom of God here in Athens!
