“Now everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the message about righteousness, because he is an infant.” Hebrews 5:13 (HCSB)
I recently was awakened in the middle of the night with word ‘bologna’ on my mind. No, I wasn’t hungry, and even if I was I would not eat a bologna sandwich in the early morning hours, perhaps ever!
Bologna is actually a city in northern Italy that developed what we have as a ‘lunch meat.’ For many it is a regular part of their diet. It’s cheap and can make a tasty sandwich, I guess. On the other hand, some say that Bologna is just barely better for you than eating nothing at all. It is actually filled with all sorts of extra bits, and is high in sodium and fat. One article I looked at said 800,000 less people would not die each year if they changed their diet and removed bologna and such ‘almost’ foods from it!
Sorry if I just ruined your lunch, but I am speaking about spiritual realities and not your favorite deli item! Bologna has become is a substitute to true meat of the Word. Sadly, many churches have been feeding their sheep bologna instead of steak. The result is weak believers. The church must preach the word of God, not simply fun, topical series that tickle the ears of those come. I am afraid many who have been going to church for years don’t even realize how spiritually weak they are because of their illiteracy of the Bible.
Ask God to begin changing the spiritual appetites of believers across our city to become hungry, even famished for the true meat of the word of God. Please pray for your pastor to preach the full word of God, even if it isn’t easy to chew in our current perverted twisted culture. Pray that God would show you how to eat more meat and less spiritual bologna. Ask Him what bologna looks like in your life. If your church is not teaching the word, maybe it’s time to find somewhere you can get your spiritual steak.
