Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.” Exodus 3:1 (ESV)

In the midst of the mundane, God showed up. Moses was tending a flock of sheep, not even his own, on the backside of the desert! But God stepped into this dry barren wasteland with a small yet strange sight. In the distance Moses noticed a bush was on fire, but was not consumed. The flaming bush was not the issue. They were common occurrences in the desert. But one that wasn’t consumed was very unique, different and stood out to Moses, so he went to check it out.

In his fleeing Egypt, Moses had laid down his identity, his destiny and his confidence. But God was about to recommission him. In God’s kindness, He re-invited Moses back into his calling. Moses had forgotten who he was, and God had to remind him and recommission him!

Just think if Moses had ignored this strange sight? So often God calls in the faintest of whispers, a wisp, a slight breeze, a thread hanging from heaven. And too often we miss it because we are looking and listening for the spectacular, the thunder and lightning appearance. But God usually shows up in ways we are not expecting. Especially today!

Are we missing God’s little invitations because of the busy mundaneness of our schedules? Because we don’t have time to stop and check it out? Please understand, much is at stake in this hour. Do not miss what God is saying and revealing in this hour to you! Yes, He is speaking to you! He is calling us back into our destiny, into our purpose, AND He is recommissioning us into our callings. But we must go out and see the strange sight.

Not only was Moses recommissioned, he was introduced to a name of God that was to be “remembered from generation to generation” (Exodus 3:15). God told Moses to say “I AM sent him.” His name I AM is Jehovah. Our English Bible translates this name LORD, which is first seen in Genesis 2:4. But here on the backside of the desert Jehovah reveals an aspect not yet known about Him, He is I AM, that is His name!

As we are willing to see God in the mundane place, He will reveal more of Himself to us. He is the Revealing God. And He will recommission us to what He first called us to, no matter how much we have wandered from it!

Ask Him for eyes to see Him in the mundane, ears to hear His still small voice in the clamor of our day. Tell Him you will turn aside to meet with Him, and then do so! Be willing to take your shoes off for a bit and simply sit in His presence. Ask Him to reveal things to you that you did not know (Jeremiah 33:3). Ask Him to show you every place where you have laid down His calling, purpose and destiny in your life. Then repent for it, asking Him to re-commission you as He did Moses! Thank Him for His patience, kindness and commitment to you and your destiny in Him!
