“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16 (ESV)
Jesus is coming back, and it will be spectacular! In His own words He says He will come in the Father’s glory with all the holy angels! That sounds pretty glorious! Yet, He issues a very serious warning. If we are ashamed of Him or His words in this dark depraved godless world, He will be ashamed of us at His return! Yikes! That is really strong. The word ashamed means to feel shame for or about something. Further definitions say ashamed is feeling embarrassed or guilty because of one’s actions, characteristics or associations. Or to be reluctant to do something through fear of embarrassment or humiliation. In other words, to not say or do something out of fear of offending someone is to be ashamed of Christ!!!
Many are ashamed to preach His word today out of fear it might offend those in their congregation! Pray for your pastor to be bold and fearless to preach the gospel, addressing the issues of our day, even if it offends and people leave. Ask the Lord to show you any place where you have been ashamed of Jesus in your home, dorm, class, workplace or even church! When Christ gloriously returns, may He not be ashamed of you, your church or the churches across our city!
