“Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will ever harm you.” Luke 10:19 (HCSB)
Jesus said that the truth will set us free (John 8:32). But why is it, we live in a generation with greater head knowledge about God and the Bible than perhaps ever in history, yet we are in greater bondage than ever before? You see, there is a huge difference between knowing a truth, that is, having head knowledge about a truth and actually implementing it. We can know a truth without being impacted by it. In fact, that is the case for most of the church today!
James told us to not just be hearers of truth, but to be doers of it (James 1:22). Until we take hold of the truth, implement it in our life and beliefs, it literally has no power to impact us. Truth is like a key in our hand. Unless we put it into the lock, and turn it, the door remains shut and the key’s potential has no impact!
This is how spiritual authority works. As co-heirs with Christ, given authority to do what He did, that truth will not impact us (or others) until we act on this authority that has already been given to us. We have authority to tread on “scorpions and serpents” (Luke 10:19, Mark 16:17-18), meaning we have authority to cast out demons, and to heal the sick! We are not told to pray that God would cast them out, because He has already given us that authority!
Likewise, we have been given authority to heal the sick. The only place in the New Testament that we are told to pray for the sick is in James (5:14-16). But the key here is leading the sick person to forgive and to confess their sins. For we are told that if we confess our sins to one another, we will be healed! All the other examples teach us that we are to declare and speak healing over the sick person. In other words, we are told to heal the sick, not just pray for them!
Another area is living like we are loved by the Father! We can know that truth in our heads, but is it being fleshed out in our daily life? If you are loved by the Father, then you understand He will protect you and that no one else’s opinion matters! You will not respond in defensiveness, or get aggressive when attacked, because you are secure in your Father’s love!
All this to say, instead of simply praying that God would fulfill a truth in your life, begin declaring and living that truth. If it is in the word, do it. We are told that if we claim to be born of God and live in Him we must walk as Jesus did (1 John 2:6). Declare today that you choose to crucify your flesh and will walk according to the Spirit in every area of your life! Declare that you will walk as Jesus walked, that you will step into the authority He has already given you. Declare that you will heal the sick, cast out demons and preach the Kingdom of God wherever you go! Thank Him for the truth that has set you free!
