“Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving and being deceived.” 2 Timothy 3:13 (HCSB)

This is an hour when what is true, what is truth, has become very blurred, even in the Church! There is such a high level of deception going on. I recently saw a follower of Christ blasting the deceived Christians, yet, seemingly unaware of the deception he is operating under!

Jesus warned of the need to take the log out of our own eye to help others get the dust out of theirs (Matthew 7:5). The challenging part of deception is its stealth-ness, that is, its ability to be hidden in broad daylight. After all, if we knew we were deceived (hopefully) we’d do something about it! As such, it is absolutely essential that we continually cry out for the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, to show us truth and wherever lies and deception are operating around us. It is called discernment!

Another danger of deception is that we tend to linger around others who are also deceived, who have the same mindset, who see things the same way we do. The blind leading the blind, so to speak! And that means if we are not discerning, these very people are not necessarily good resources for truth to us. Instead of exposing and confronting the lies, these likeminded folks can empower the lies we believe. We need to be willing to truly look into ourselves, with the help of trusted friends and the Holy Spirit. I literally cry out for truth and discernment daily, even if it hurts. Btw, for truth to set us free, as the Bible promises it will, it usually hurts and offends us because it is coming against that which has held us blinded and captive (i.e. a stronghold).

God loves truth in our innermost being (Psalm 51:6) because He is truth. We must be relentless in our seeking truth in every part of our being! Meanwhile, the devil loves lies and deception, after all, he is the father of lies (John 8:44). Who are you going to stand with?

Declare in Jesus name that you desire truth in your innermost being! Invite the Spirit of Truth to search you completely and expose any place where a lie might be hiding. Cry out for Jesus, the way, the TRUTH and the life, to be manifest in every area of your life! Ask the Lord gird you in the belt of truth (Ephesians 6:14), for any and every trace of deception to be exposed, AND to grant you discernment to know when deception is operating in and around you. Ask Him to help you guard your lips from speaking anything less than what is true (i.e. no more exaggerating). Pray for your pastor to increase in discernment, and for lies, deception, misinformation or false narratives to not have any place in your church. Pray for communities of friends in your church to rise up and speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) no matter what.
