“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy!’” Matthew 25:11 (HCSB)

God has given each of us a part to play in this historic moment! As in a symphony, every part matters, even if it seems insignificant! God placed you and I here, right now, to fulfill our part in His story. We are not here accidentally, nor randomly. No God, in His infinite wisdom has strategically placed us exactly where and when He wanted us to be alive. It is up to us to steward what He has entrusted us with.

We are accountable and will be rewarded according to how we steward our opportunities, talents, gifts, wealth and time. Sorry, there are no “participation rewards!” We will be rewarded according to what we have done. Just surviving, just showing up, just cruising through life is not enough. Sadly, much of the church has adopted the concept that everyone receives the prize. Sure, it may get us into heaven, maybe, but that is not why we are here. If heaven was the point, God would whisk us there the moment we were born again. But understand this, James was right when he wrote, “faith without works is dead” (James 2:26).

Our purpose is to partner with Him to accomplish His will, His way, His kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. He has always looked for those who would join Him in intimate partnership here on earth. He has equipped each of us with what we need. He has entrusted us with exactly the resources required to fulfill our destiny, today. We have to be faithful with what He has given us, and as we do, He actually increases these things in us. We are told to seek Him AND His kingdom, and the result is “everything added” to us (Matthew 6:33)!

Ask the Lord to forgive you for any place you have squandered what He has given you. Ask Him to grant you the grace to intentionally identify and steward these resources. Ask Him to show you how important your task, your purpose is. Ask Him to show you what He has given to you to use for His glory. Thank Him for making you unique, now ask Him to grant you the grace to bring your unique contribution of the kingdom God into your world, starting today. Ask Him to increase His salt and light in you!
