“When the day of Pentecost had arrived, they were all together in one place.” Acts 2:1 (HCSB)

It’s Friday, but Sunday’s coming, and this Sunday (June 5) is Pentecost, which is fifty days after the resurrection. It is a very significant day on the calendar yet it is so often ignored!  It is the day when the Holy Spirit was poured out and the Church was born. A group of Christ followers had been waiting for this promised gift, the seal of their salvation (2 Corinthians 5:5, Ephesians 1:13-14), the empowerment to do what Jesus had commanded them to do. They did not know when He was coming, or how He’d come! But they waited and were ready!

What are you doing to prepare yourself for Pentecost? Are you actively waiting before the Lord? What is your church doing to prepare for Pentecost? Sadly, many churches will pass through this Sunday with hardly a nod of the significance of the day! The Holy Spirit always comes where He is wanted. A token nod to Him does not mean He is welcome or the house prepared for Him. Does your church really want Him?

Take time between now (Friday), and Pentecost (Sunday) to seek the Lord regarding preparing for the Holy Spirit’s outpouring and the celebration of the Church’s birthday. Tell Him He is wanted, welcomed and needed in your life, your home, your church and our city! Pray for your pastor to prepare his heart, home and church for a fresh visitation of the Holy Spirit! Thank the Lord that He has not left us as orphans, but has filled us with His Holy Spirit and called His children! That’s what you are, a Spirit filled child of God (1 John 3:1). Pray for a great outpouring and celebration this Sunday across our city!
