“Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of My mouth.” Revelation 2:16 (NLT)

The church of Pergamum was commended for remaining loyal to Jesus, even in the midst of tremendous persecution. But compromise had crept into their community. They and tolerated it. Jesus said that unless they repent He was going to come against them, specifically speaking about those who were in error. The word repent means “to change your inner self – your old way of thinking, your sinful behavior – seek God’s will” (AMP). Jesus said He was going to come “suddenly” (NLT), “quickly” (TPT), “soon” (ESV). However you take that, Jesus was saying it is imminent, which means, likely to happen at any moment (Dictionary.com). So apparently, our repenting on behalf of those who are compromising and for our tolerating their compromise in the church, releases God’s grace and delays His quickly coming judgment.

Ask God to show you any place where you have tolerated compromise in your life as well as in His church. Repent of any such compromise, as it has power to release God’s grace, not just in your life but over your church as well. Cry out on behalf of your pastor and church leadership, that God would show them any place where they have compromised or tolerated those who are teaching compromised truth! Pray for God’s grace to abound across our city as we repent for our places of compromise.
