He told them: “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Luke 10:2 (HCSB)

Jesus said that if we would pray for harvest workers God would rouse them. Implying, if we don’t pray, God is not going to call them out! We are on the verge of the greatest harvest, ever! We need to not only pray for the one billion soul harvest to come in, but for God to provide both those who will reach them AND those who will disciple them. God is not looking for conversions, but for disciples.

In the very next verse after exhorting His 72 followers to pray for the laborers of the harvest, He told them “Go!” They became the answer to their prayer! This was similar to Jesus’ last words to His disciples before He ascended to heaven. He said “go, make disciples of nations!” He sent them out not just to not convert people, but to disciple nations (Matthew 28:19-20)! We are on the verge of being a part of this fulfillment!

Ask the Lord to prepare workers of the harvest, both the evangelists and disciplers. Ask Him what part He wants you to play, what is your assignment in the coming harvest. Ask Him what you need to do to prepare for this assignment! Ask Him to raise up these workers from within your church. Ask Him to give your pastor and leadership urgent wisdom to prepare now for this harvest, while there is still time. Ask Him to do this across our city.

“Father, O that Athens would be a harvest workers sending city, to the nations! Father call out high school and university students to ‘go!’ Father call out men and women, fathers and mothers, to ‘go!’ Father, prepare Your church in this city to go both locally and internationally, to make disciples of nations!”
