Prayer Opportunities in August 2015

So much is happening all around us. From the global scene, to the local world we live in “stuff” is happening. Kids and students are returning to the classrooms. Families are returning from vacations. It is time to pray, to pray more and to not give up or to give in to the busyness of this new season. Our world needs Jesus and our prayer makes a huge difference. Please join us in prayer for Athens (and for wherever you live) and use these opportunities to make your prayer laser focused.

Prayer Walk – Downtown Athens
Sunday, August 2 and 23 / 10 to 11am
Sunday, August 9, 16 and 30 / 11 to noon
The Awakening – Live Wire Music Hall (formerly New Earth Music Hall) – 227 W Dougherty St, Athens, GA 30601
Details: Led by The Awakening, everyone is welcome to join in on this weekly prophetic prayer adventure around downtown Athens. Even if you can’t physically join us, how about pausing for a few moments each Sunday and pray for your city?

Prayer for Middle East
Wednesday, August 5 / noon to 1pm
Classic City Ministry Center – 386 N. Milledge Ave., Athens 30601
Details: Folks from across our city join together to pray for the people affected by the conflict in Syria and throughout the Middle East. Everyone is welcome!!! And if you can’t come, please take some time to pray for Israel and the Middle East.

Prayer Walk – UGA
Saturday, August 8 /10am to noon

Details: We meet at the arches and go from there. Every one of these monthly walks are unique and exciting. And we do it rain or shine, hot or cold. Please join us as we hit the pavement crying out for God to do amazing things on the campus this coming semester. And if you are not able to be with us, please take a few moments to pray for UGA, especially the 5,000 plus incoming freshmen who will be displaced and alone, open for new friends and places to belong. Pray God would draw them into local churches & campus ministries.

Inter-campus ministries prayer gathering
Tuesday, August 11 / 9 to 10:30am
Calvary Bible Church – 2026 S Milledge Ave, Athens, GA 30605
Details: Most of the campus ministries (the directors and staff) will be joining together with senior pastors and other ministers in Athens to pray for this next semester that starts August 17. Even if you are not a pastor or involved in a leadership role in a campus ministry, please mark your calendar and join us in prayer from wherever you are at.

Pastors Prayer
Wednesday, August 12 / 9 to 10am
City Church Athens – 4019 Atlanta Hwy., Athens, GA 30606
Details: Senior pastors praying with and for each other and for our city. If you are not a senior pastor, you can still take this opportunity to stop and pray for your pastor during this same one-hour slot.

The Athens Prayer Watch – Non-stop prayer over Athens
Still to be determined – possibly August 16-30
Everywhere
Details: Multiple churches and ministries joining together to pray non-stop for a specified period of time. On line sign ups will start soon. You can do a prayer slot by yourself, with someone else, even with a group. And best of all you can do it wherever you are. Once you sign up, you will receive a prayer guide (via email). Everyone will be invited to join the Athens Prayer Watch Facebook group where we will journey together through these days. And if you are outside Athens, you are still welcome to sign up for a slot and join us in prayer.

Details: This monthly prayer gathering is for pastors and ministers from across Athens. Write it in your calendar to stop and pray for all the pastors and ministers you know in Athens (or wherever you are at)! And if you are a pastor, please join us!!!

Worship Pastors Prayer
Wednesday, August 26 / 9 to 10am
Athens Church – 10 Huntington Road, Athens, GA 30606
Details: If you are a worship pastor, please come, connect and pray with other worship pastors from Athens. If you aren’t a worship pastor take this time to pray for the worship ministry at your church as well as for the song of the Lord to spring up across our city!

Time of Healing Prayer
Thursday, August 27 / 7 to 8:30pm
St. James United Methodist Church – 111 West Lake Dr., Athens, GA  30606
Details: This is for the community and everyone is welcome. If you want, there is opportunity for individual prayer with two trained prayer ministers for your needs and concerns (with complete confidentiality). There have been many healings and breakthroughs as people met Jesus at these gatherings. Take time during this slot to pray for those that you know are not well and need a touch from God.

Details: College students from multiple campus ministries and churches join together as an expression of unity, crying out for God to move in our city and on the campus!
