“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14 (ESV)
You can help prepare the atmosphere of corporate worship, whether that be the Sunday morning service at your local church or at AHOP. It all starts by developing your own secret place with Him on your during week. Imagine what would happen if everyone in the room had spent much time seeking God during the week. The atmosphere would be electric, filled with expectation and hope. Let it start with you, and it will make a difference!
Learn to fellowship with the Holy Spirit. To walk with Him and talk with Him and flow wherever He goes. Then bring that into your big group gathering. It will impact the atmosphere. Fellowship leads to intimacy which leads to partnership.
Begin shifting your mindset. Stop looking at what you can get from the corporate worship gathering (whether it be your Sunday morning service or at AHOP). But instead begin asking the Lord what you can contribute to the atmosphere. We have all been in dry places, services where there was no sense of God’s presence. And we’ve been in services where God’s presence was rich, thick and heavy! Obviously, we prefer the latter. But sometimes we are actually part of the reason for the dryness. When you come to AHOP or your Sunday service, bring your faith. Ask God to awaken you to come with faith and expectation of what He is about to do in our midst. Ask Him to meet you and to move in power in the service, revealing His glory and doing whatever He wants to do.
Leave your sin, doubt, your control outside. If you have to get it back, it will still be there when you leave (but I’d suggest not picking it up on your way out). Ask the Lord to do what He wants to do, and declare it is not about you and/or what you want or need. You see, self-centeredness or self-focus, is the enemy of His glory. Tell Him it’s all about Him!!! Sing to God, not just about Him or what you can get from Him! When “fluff” songs are sung, use it as an opportunity to pray for others in the service whom the Lord may draw your attention to.
Remember to enter with praise and thanksgiving. This takes our eyes off ourselves. As you sit in the room before the service begins start praising and thanking Him for who He is and all He has done! Please don’t just enter into idle conversation, but press into God because you are stepping into a holy place!
Recognize that every gathering is an opportunity for you to co-labor with the Lord in some capacity. It doesn’t have to be a public word, but start flowing with the Holy Spirit’s promptings. He may give you a word for someone, or perhaps just want you to pray for someone whom He draws your attention to. The point is, come with the mindset of giving and serving, asking God you use you.
Ask God to grant you the grace to be one whom shifts and prepares the atmosphere for His glory and presence. Ask Him to prepare you for the next worship gathering, ask Him to show you any of your mindsets that need to change. Declare that you are going to give, serve and worship Him. Declare that the service is not about you. Ask Him for eyes to see what He is doing with wisdom and courage on how you join Him!
