False messiahs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.” Matthew 24:24 (HCSB)

The presence of a counterfeit means there is a real version. If signs and wonders no longer exist, then there could be no counterfeit ones that would deceive anyone. Cessationism says the Holy Spirit does not do what he used to do. It does not necessarily deny the existence nor our need for the Holy Spirit, but in a sense, He has been demoted! But if that was the case Jesus would not have warned that we’d be deceived by false ones. We could only be deceived if there was a real one.

Thank Jesus for sending His Holy Spirit to continue and bring to completion that which He started when He wanted this earth. Thank Him for His role to empower, to teach and lead you. Thank Him for the role He plays in revealing Jesus and the Father. Thank Him for being in you right now, that is, assuming that you are a born-again follower of Christ! Thank Him for His unlimited availability. Jesus said that God gives the Holy Spirit without limit (John 3:34). Thank Him for the gift of tongues, of the various forms of prophecy, of healing and miracles. Thank Him that He releases dreams and convicts you of sin. Thank Him for whatever else comes to your mind that He is to you!

Now ask Him to increase, to release more of His presence, His power and His revelation. Ask Him to grant you a prayer language (or give you greater fluency in it) and for Him to open your ears so you can hear both His and Jesus’ voice (John 10:27). Ask Him to give you dreams and visions (Ephesians 1:17) to know Him better. Ask Him to bear more of His fruit in your life (John 15:4, Galatians 5:22-23). Ask Him to make you more like Jesus! Ask Him to draw more and more people to Jesus in our city. Ask Him to release dreams and visions in people who are not yet followers of Christ in Athens. Ask Him to reveal Jesus Christ as He really is, and the demolish every stronghold that hinders people from coming to the knowledge of who He is, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Lion and the Lamb, the Coming Bridegroom, the One who is worthy of all our honor, praise and devotion, Jesus Christ, the Living and powerful word of God, who gave us the Holy Spirit!
