For as he thinks within himself, so he is.” Proverbs 23:7a (NASB)

Recently I heard a word from Andrew Whalen about how our minds are portals. This got me thinking, ha! What and how we think effects how we feel and act! There is a reason we have the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:17)! Likewise, it is for a very important outcome that we are told to take captive every thought (2 Corinthians 10:5). You see, the primary place of our spiritual battle is in our minds, in our thoughts, that when there is an agreement we open the door for more demonic attack, or to heavenly thinking!

If you tell yourself you’re a loser, you’ll act like it. The enemy comes and encamps around that thought and makes it a stronghold. If you tell yourself you’re sick, guess what, you’ll be sick! Infirmity and pain will often gently knock on the door and if you open that door and let it in, guess who comes for a visit?! I have several times literally felt a headache coming on and I simply said “stop it.” I didn’t accept the head ache. And It immediately went away. Stop giving these negative things power in your life! Likewise, I have had pain in my knee and I simply said “Stop it,” and it went away! Btw, the words from your lips reflect your heart and mind, and as such are very powerful

If you tell yourself that you’ll always, barely have enough, you will live under a poverty spirit! Believe me, we lived under this demonic mindset for years. But that is not God’s desire or will for our lives. Jesus came that we might have life, and life abundantly (John 10:10). However it is meant to look, our life is supposed to be abundant!

Understand this, your mind is a portal of heaven or hell. There is no middle ground! You cannot be both! Satan lingers around, whispering lies, accusations and lustful temptations. When you accept it, when you open that door and come into agreement with the devil’s lies you become enslaved by it! You will never be more than your thought life! So, set your mind on the things above (Colossians 3:2).

If you linger in God’s presence joy will exude from you because there is fullness of joy in the presence of God (Psalm 16:11). Paul teaches us to set our mind on whatever is true, noble, pure, lovely, right, praiseworthy and excellent. The fruit of such thinking is the peace of God (Philippians 4:8-9).

So instead of thinking of the filth of the flesh and the world, put on the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). Put on the helmet of salvation, namely claiming your identity as a son or daughter of the King. Take captive every thought and make them obedient to Christ. Tear down and demolish strongholds, that is, every lie, speculation, lofty argument and thought that sets itself up against the knowledge of God (2 Corinthians 10:4-6). Take time to gaze, behold, meditate upon God’s glory, because as you do, you are transformed by it (2 Corinthians 3:18). It’s worth the effort! Ask God to renew your mind so that your life will be transformed (Romans 12:1-2).

If your thinking is stinking, it will come out in your life. Stop thinking negative thoughts, as they birth negative things in your life. When you allow unforgiveness to fester, wicked thoughts of resentment, anger and bitterness become roots, impacting everything you do! So forgive everyone, asking God to remove every bitter root and replace them with thoughts of love and blessing toward those who were once your enemies! No wonder Jesus says to bless those who curse you and pray for your enemies (Matthew 5:44).

Repent of your stinking thinking, repent of every lie you have believed over your life!

Declare wealth, health, abundance, “more than enough” in your life, over your children and their children’s children to come! Declare joy, peace and wholeness over your life, over your marriage, over your church! Declare that you are a victorious warrior, a powerful soldier of the Lord and an overcomer, because that’s what God says about you (2 Timothy 4:3-4, 1 John 5:4-5)! Ask God to make you the most joyful, peaceful and life-giving person to be around! Declare that no unwholesome word will come from your lips (Ephesians 4:29). Declare that the fragrance of your life will impact the atmosphere wherever you go. Now begin speaking out loud, truth words over your life. Throughout the day, agree with and declare what God says about you. “I am dearly loved and a lover. I am a winner. I am healthy. I am at peace, filled with joy. I am strong. I am whole. I am blessed, and more, because this is what Jesus says about me!” Hopefully you get my point. Make up your own list and begin declaring them regularly over your life, over your spouse, your children and those around you!!!

May you allow your mind to be a portal of heaven here on earth!
