Jesus told her, ‘Believe Me, woman, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.’” John 4:21 (HCSB)

We are in a day where the prayer room, the prayer chapel and the house of prayer are all becoming much more common, more popular, and more active! But there is an even more important place that God desires for us to establish in this hour. I guess the word “place” is a bit misleading. It is more of a realm than a physical location.

Though we live in this world, we are not meant to be at home here. We are sojourners and pilgrims in search of a better city, a city of a different realm (1 Peter 2:9-11, Hebrews 11:13-16). Though I am totally for building the corporate house of prayer in this hour, it is actually constructed with living, holy stones. Our personal worship and prayer is just as important, if not more so, than the corporate settings. And since we are living stones, we are not restricted to a physical location or ‘place!’ Our investing into our own secret ‘place’ with the Lord is absolutely crucial. The Lord wants us to go from petition and intercession to experiencing His presence and glory in our own secret/hidden place with Him. As we personally go deeper, our corporate gatherings will likewise be enriched and go deeper.

Please, please, please take the time to explore new depths with Jesus. Don’t simply use the prayer room as your secret place. Be intentional to daily seek Him, to gaze upon His beauty and perfections (Psalm 27:4). Take more time to listen, to meditate, to gaze upon Him! Like all new disciplines, this may be awkward and take a bit of effort. Believe me, I am speaking to myself as well! And don’t forget to celebrate the little victories and advancements as you press into God. Your relationship with Jesus is unique, so do not compare it to anyone else’s journey or experience. As you walk through the open door this year, expect things to feel, look and be different! And above all else, draw nearer to Jesus!
