Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 (ESV)

Have you ever wondered why it takes some people a really long time to get freed and healed while for others it is much, MUCH faster? I Believe it has to do with surrender! I know people who have struggled with the same issue, whether pain, anxiety, fear, grief, and/or an addiction for years, because they have literally not truly surrendered it to Christ. Some people think they have surrendered when they really haven’t. Evidence of lack of surrender is the presence of fear, anxiety, and sometimes, depression. To surrender means, well, it is no longer yours to be concerned about!

Others as they pray they say I want to surrender, but can only surrender so much. The awesome thing about it is, God literally meets us at the level of our surrendered heart. Nevertheless, you could say, we are healed and freed at the speed of surrender. I know that sounds audacious, but if we are not letting the Holy Spirit into a part of our soul, then we are still in control of that section. Meaning, it is not surrendered. What I have learned, He will not usually violate our free will. I say usually as there are times that His grace is simply irresistible! But most of the time, He waits for the invite, and that comes through our surrender! And surrender has to do with trust. James told us to surrender to God, then resist the devil and he will flee from you. His fleeing is usually not instantaneous, but requires us to trust God in that surrendered place!

There is a significant rise in deliverance happening where it was once unknown. I know many people who are quite trained, equipped and gifted in this ministry. The problem is, deliverance isn’t the goal. There are twisted people, literally who understand the concept Jesus talked about where 7 spirits worse than the first could come in and occupy the place where deliverance has occurred by being left unfilled (Matthew 12:43-45). These people actually want more power and more evil spirits will bring that, at least so they think. You see, our goal is not simply to cast out demons, but to see people surrender, grow and become whole. Without surrender you can cast the spirits out, but they will be back with their friends and life will be worse than before.

Tell the Lord right now that you surrender all to Him. Ask Him to show you any places in your soul that have not been surrendered, and keep asking, listening and waiting for Him to reveal these things. Pray with King David, Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life” (Psalm 139:23-24 / NLT). Ask Him to occupy your soul completely, making you think, act, look and even smell like Jesus. Ask Him to expose any demonic squatters who may have been hiding in those un-surrendered places. Thank Him for His transformative work that is done as you surrender to Him!
