But if it doesn’t please you to worship Yahweh, choose for yourselves today the one you will worship: the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my family, we will worship Yahweh.” Joshua 24:15 (HCSB)

Believe it or not, you have to make a choice. By not making a choice, you have made a choice! Your eternal destination is by choice. God sends no one to hell, only those who choose to go there by rejecting His free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. And how you live today is your choice. But choosing to live in the middle zone, in the gray matter, in the lukewarm, is actually choosing against God. We are told that Jesus would spit out those who are lukewarm (Revelation 3:16). I know those are pretty strong words, but they are not mine, but Jesus’. Like any bridegroom, Jesus is looking for those whose hearts are completely His!

Consider Joshua who made a declaration that he and his household was going to serve the Lord, but still, he threw it out to the rest of the people, calling them to “choose today whom you will serve” (Joshua 24:15).

On the eve of Elijah facing down all the priests of Baal, he asked the crowd, who they would serve, and no one answered. The question was clear, Baal or God but the cowardly, uncommitted people remained silent (1 Kings 18:21), until fire fell from heaven and they declared God as their God (1 Kings 18:38-39)! Remember God is not impressed, at all, by cowards (Revelation 21:8, Proverbs 28:1, 2 Timothy 1:7).

Jesus said that you cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). Paul said that cannot serve flesh and Spirit (Galatians 6:7-8). Paul also warned that you can’t drink the Lord’s cup as well as the cup of this world and/or of demons (1 Corinthians 10:21). John said that you cannot dwell in Babylon and God’s kingdom. If you choose God, flee Babylon (Revelation 18:4).

You can no longer ride the line, you must choose! Today you must choose! Your life today and in eternity will be determined what you choose now! Many years ago, my best friend Steve Robbins and I were in an evangelistic gathering, where the speaker shared this idea of choosing now as you don’t know what tomorrow holds. My friend and I both affirmed our wholehearted love for Jesus. Then just hours later Steve was in a tragic accident and was taken home that very night to be with the One whom his heart loved! So, choose you today whom you will serve, and serve Him wholeheartedly. To not choose is to reject Him!

Ask God to show you any place in your life where you have allowed Babylon to creep in, and if it’s there repent. Please affirm right now whom you will love, serve and worship, and choose to be wholehearted in all you are for Him. Pray for those you know who are not living for Jesus, or have even rejected Him as their Lord and Savior. Cry out for mercy on their behalf. Intercede for their souls! Cry out for prodigals you know, that they would come to their senses and return to their Father’s house (Luke 15:17) and perhaps their earthly parent’s home as well! Pray for your pastor to be anointed and convicted to preach messages that call people to repentance, to wholehearted surrender and commitment to Jesus. The time is short! May there be a fresh urgency in your church and across our city for getting right with God. Pray for the fire of God to fall on your church and in our city!
