“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:3 (NIV)
There is a cry for unity in our nation! And unity is a good thing. In fact, where there is unity there is blessing (Psalm 133:1), and the ability to do anything (Genesis 11:6). Unfortunately, the call for unity in our nation is more like uniformity. It’s a call to “be like me!” And when we don’t conform to this “unity” we are censored, cancelled, marginalized, and mocked. Unity is not everyone saying the same thing, agreeing with each other, or wearing the same color. The kind of unity that God desires is centered around diversity, like a symphony. The many tones and notes make it beautiful. Todays desired unity is monochrome, and dull. It is oppressive and dangerous! God’s unity is vibrant, full of uniqueness, and freedom.
Please pray for true unity in our nation. Pray that we, a diverse group of peoples from various tribes, tongues and nations, would come together as ONE NATION UNDER GOD! Pray for the church (starting with your own), crying out that we would not compromise to be a part of this Babylonian unity. Cry out for God to build His house once again in our nation (Psalm 127:1). Ask God to show you where you have compromised who you are, for the sake of ungodly unity. Our unity is around the cross. It is around denying ourselves, and following Jesus (Luke 9:23-24). Ask God for a grace to come back under His unity!
