“The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” John 7:38 (HCSB)

Water is absolutely necessary for life! It is said that a healthy person can live without food for up to 65 days if they remain hydrated, but without water for 3 days we will perish. Our body is made up of approximately 60% water! Water helps with our digestion, stimulates weight loss, moisturizes skin, and detoxifies. Water carries nutrients to the cells of our body and oxygen to our brain. It regulates our body temperature and keeps our joints lubricated. It helps prevent diseases and infections. And all that is just a sample of the importance of water. Water plays such a huge role in our lives. It is mentioned in the second verse in the Bible that the Holy Spirit was hovering over the waters (Genesis 1:2).

We are told that the River of Life flows from the throne down Main Street in heaven with trees of life growing on the banks. Their leaves bring healing to the nations (Revelation 22, Ezekiel 47). Whereas, hell is depicted as a dry, waterless place! The rich man who found himself in hades simply wanted a drop of water, but was not permitted (Luke 16:23-24).

There are destructive flood waters (Genesis 6-8). And bodies of water that seem to block our way, but God provides a way through them (Exodus 13-14, Joshua 3, and 2 Kings 2:13-14). We’re told that we will not be drown (Isaiah 43:2), and that even the fiercest raging water can’t quench love (Song of Songs 8:7)! Drought occurs when there is an absence of water, but God releases His rain as a blessing and in response to prayer (James 5:17-18, 2 Chronicles 6:26-27).

Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for a drink of water from Jacob’s well, then offered her living water (John 4:1-15). That offer is still available today!

Jesus walked on the water (Matthew 14:25), He calmed the water in the midst of the storm (Luke 8:22-25), He changed the water to wine (John 2:6-10), and His voice sounds like rushing water (Revelation 1:15). No wonder He invites us to come drink the living water that He offers (John 7:37-39, Revelation 22:17)! Btw, this water He is referring to is the Holy Spirit!

Yet today so many people are spiritually dehydrated. They are withering away in hopeless, despair, fear, anxiety and depression! They desperately need what Jesus offers, His Holy Spirit!!! This same Holy Spirit that was hovering over the water at the beginning of the Bible, is still operating at the end of it. Yet even in the church so many are not coming to the waters and drinking!

Please pray for streams of living water to flow through your church. Ask God to remove every hindrance to this flow in your church, whether that be doctrine, sin, demonic oppression and deception. Pray for your pastor to be filled with this living water, that out of the abundance of his heart he would lead, teach and preach the word of God and allow the Holy Spirit to operating absolutely freely throughout every part of your church. Ask Jesus to release even a greater measure of this living water in your life, and in the lives of every believer across our city!
